New York AFI is taking Paratroopers Fly Fishing!
In keeping with the AFI mission to get veterans in the outdoors, New York, Connecticut AFI and the Fort Liberty AFI club have teamed up to provide Paratroopers who will be spending their summer facilitating cadet training at our National Military Academy at West Point, NY.
Working with unit leadership 25 Paratroopers with no prior fly fishing experience will get to spend a day on some of New York and Connecticut’s trout streams and rivers. This will be accomplished over five different trips with five participants per trip by working with local fly fishing guides and other volunteers.
This is a great way to provide some outdoor recreation for these servicemembers while away from home for the summer and introduce BHA and the AFI program to new audiences. As with any of our events we hope to show participants new opportunities in the outdoors while exposing them to the importance of wildlife conservation. Hopefully, they all leave with a better appreciation for conservation advocacy and how veterans can be a key component.
