BHA's Armed Forces Initiative (AFI) in New York and New England are excited to announce our first Armed Forces Initiative Leader Development Camp. We invite any military members, past or present to sign up for this 3-day duck camp if you are interested in becoming a AFI volunteer in your state. There are very limited spots for this camp, but if you're interested in an active volunteer leadership role, please apply. At this camp, you'll meet some of the National and Northeast-based BHA and Armed Forces Initiative leaders.
This camp will be supported by New England BHA and the AFI program, and will be based out of Newbury, MA. All major logistics will be provided; all you will need to do is get yourself to the camp and bring your own personal equipment for waterfowl hunting. Items needed to bring include: appropriate MA licenses, Federal Duck Stamp, waders, PFD, shotgun with steel shot and proper plug, gun-lock/cable (per MA state law during transport), and any other waterfowl gear you have. If you are missing any of these items, please list that in the application and we will work to source them if you are selected.
Even if you're not an experienced waterfowl hunter, we'll have hunting mentors available to assist. This will be an opportunity to learn some skills to become a better waterfowl hunter or an introduction to those who are new to it with numerous classes being taught by local and regional representatives from MA Fish and Game, local duck call makers and decoy carvers, as well as an opportunity to learn the requirements, expectations, and processes as a BHA leader.
Hunting Location: Parker River National Wildlife Refuge (Inter-coastal, tidal marshes, and tributaries)
Species Targeted: Black Ducks, Divers, Puddle Ducks and Geese (this is part of the wintering grounds for Black ducks along the Atlantic Flyway)
Hunt Style: Mixed of flat bottom duck boats, canoes, shore blinds during tidal shift, and layout blinds.
During this camp, there will also be active filming by BHA and sponsor media for utilization in their marketing.
