Across the country, public lands are under siege. Politicians and special interests are working to sell them off or transfer them out of federal hands, threatening the public access, the multiple-use mandate established by law, and long-term stewardship that millions of Americans rely on. What started last year as a long-shot legal maneuver in Utah is now gaining steam nationwide, and it’s time to take action.
Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA), North America’s leading public lands advocacy group, is sounding the alarm and mobilizing its nationwide grassroots network in response to a last-minute amendment to the House budget reconciliation bill that would authorize the sale of nearly 500,000 acres of public lands in Utah and Nevada.

America’s public lands are held in trust for all — not to be liquidated to balance budgets or satisfy short-term political goals. Whether you hunt, fish, hike, or simply value open space, your voice matters.
As Ryan “Cal” Callaghan, BHA’s North American Board Chair and Conservation Director at MeatEater put it:
“We’ll work with anyone, anywhere, to find real solutions. But if you’re looking to carve up America’s public lands behind closed doors, you won’t find compromise – you’ll find us.”
