apply for a Dual Skills Camp, intended to build public land and water advocates, provide public policy knowledge, and tactile and cerebral skills during an immersive whitetail hunting camp in the Nantahala Game Land, North Carolina.
Our base camp will be at Wine Springs Horse Camp (35.177222 -83.613958). We will be in and around a bear sanctuary and no bear may be taken in accordance with NC Hunting Regulations. Feral swine may be taken during this camp. While this is a black powder hunt camp, if you prefer to use a bow please indicate that in the ‘aspirations’ portion of the application form so that we may align the appropriate mentor to you. The application deadline is 30 May 2022. Potential hunters must use the application form below. There is a small attendance fee ($60) and attendees are expected to cover their own transportation, licensing costs, and provide their own hunting and camping equipment. By exception hunting and camping equipment can be provided. If selected, a detailed recommended packing list will be emailed to you.
Camp will run from the evening of October 6th 2022 until noon on October 10th.
Topics include whitetail habitat and habits, e-scouting with OnX, reading sign, set up, shot placement, use of calls, hunting methods, field dressing/butchering, backcountry medicine, and display considerations.
Topics include the history of public lands, how public lands and wildlife are managed, how public lands and wildlife management are funded, how the legislative process works, how to engage with legislators and policy influencers, current military and public land legislation and policy issues.
