event_description: Is there a better way to kick off National Public Lands Day and the fall hunting season than with an access project? We don’t think so!   Join us on Saturday, September 26th for a Public Lands Day Project. Another one of the major bridges into the Nulhegan Basin Division of the Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge needs to be re-decked and BHA members are stepping up to help!This 55-foot long bridge on Four Mile Road, over the North Branch of the Nulhegan River, serves as a major access point into the 41 square mile wildlife refuge for all types of hunting and angling opportunities.Volunteers will meet in Island Pond at the American Legion Parking Lot (60 Railroad St, Island Pond, VT 05846) at 9 a.m. for a briefing and then we’ll travel to the bridge project location for work from 10 until about 4. There will be educational opportunities with USFWS staff on hand. Tools and equipment will be provided. Steel toe boots and work gloves are highly recommended. There will be snacks, water, and light sandwich fare for a working lunch available. This project will take place rain or shine, so come prepared.We know we redecked a bridge in 2019, and now one in 2020. Have no fear, we already have a different project in the works for 2021!We will be taking special precautions at this event to follow coronavirus guidelines, including:All participants must bring a face mask. Face masks must be worn whenever a distance of at least 6 feet cannot be maintained per VT mandate. Note that a “buff” or neck gaiter constitutes a face covering.Anyone that is not feeling well or is experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 such as fever, shortness of breath or coughing/sneezing, or has been in contact with someone that has recently tested positive must stay home.Attendees must follow both handwashing and coughing/sneezing etiquette.  We will supply hand sanitizer that participants can use during the event.Persons traveling in private vehicles shall limit passengers to their immediate household membersPeople traveling from out of state to this project need to follow the following guidance (effective Aug 5th):Travelers from certain counties with low rates of active cases (Green Counties at this link -https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel ) do not need to quarantine when they arrive in Vermont.If you are visiting Vermont from a county in a yellow or red zone at the link above you must quarantine for 14 days once you arrive and before participating in this event.
