The MN AFI leadership team is proud to announce our Learn to Paddle in the Backcountry event for this September.
The Backcountry of the Midwest looks different than most of the country and it takes a special skillset to go out and recreate in it. While in most of the country you can simply strap on a backpack and walk into the wilderness, up here you have to paddle and contend with the massive amounts of water in this part of the world. In this class we are taking 7 AFI members into the Boundary Waters Wilderness to teach:
Paddeling
How to pack a canoe
How to keep your gear dry
Bug aversion techniques in the Northwoods
Basic first aid
How to portage a canoe
Outdoor cooking
How to filter water
Water Navigation and map reading
This camp is designed to teach the skills necessary for participants to have the knowledge and experience to go out on their own in the future and be confident in their abilities to the point they can go out alone or with a peer group to hunt or fish in the swamps of the north.
Space is extremely limited and we will be choosing primary attendees as well as alternates so please apply asap.
