The Armed Forces Initiative is the BHA program focused on creating conservationists within the military community. Our dual-skills camps are designed to teach the military community how to get out and enjoy our public lands and waters through hunting or fishing.
The Michigan AFI team, along with Fishery Pointe Cottages, is excited to invite 4 hunters up to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for a weekend of layout boat waterfowl hunting. This is an all inclusive trip, with food, lodging, and most equipment provided. All you will be required to bring is a shotgun, ammo, and warm clothing.
*Travel expenses to and from the event are the responsibility of the participant.*
This Dual Skills Camp is a learn-to-hunt event. Attendees will be mentored through a waterfowl hunting experience from the preparation and gear phase through the post-harvest meal prep. AFI mentors will host attendees talking through the ins and outs of waterfowl hunting from a layout boat. After hunting, our Michigan AFI liaison will discuss how hunting affects conservation in MI, what is the North American model of conservation, and how participants can use their voices as members of the military community to support BHA's conservation mission.
Attendees can expect classes on:
-Waterfowl Biology
-Waterfowl Habitat
-How to use a duck call
-Decoy spread set-ups
-Waterfowl processing and cooking
-History of Public land and waters
-The North American model of wildlife conservation
