Sacrifice

Author: Trevor Hubbs
As Seen in the Wild Sheep Foundation Fall 2022    For the past 20 years the National Training center on Fort Irwin California has been the last training phase of all Army units before their deployment to some far-flung place to try and help the locals of the region in some way.  Be it bridge building, medical services, or simply clearing the area of extremist soldiers all units pass through Fort Irwin and the National Training Center.   There are several reactions soldiers have to time spent ...

What is the AFI

Author: Trevor Hubbs
I got a email recently from a BHA member and a veteran in the south.  I thought this could be a good opportunity to answer it for the larger BHA community so everyone can benefit from this great question.   Question: I guess I’m just confused on what AFI does. Why does it seem to be set up as a different organization?    Is this going to be the business model of BHA moving forward to attract different segments of society? Thanks.    Answer:   Excellent question, thank you for reaching ...

Self Worth

Author: Trevor Hubbs
"Self Worth" “What's my worth to BHA and the Armed Forces Initiative?“ This is an honest question that was asked of me by a volunteer in Minneapolis. An Air Force veteran who was responsible for setting up our 2022 Boundary Waters canoe trip for 18 veterans. As a thank you for his hours of volunteer time setting this event up, the AFI board offered to send him and his spouse to the BHA annual fundraiser in Missoula under the condition that he also volunteer to work the apparel sales ...

AFI Year in Review 2022

Author: Trevor Hubbs
It’s been an incredible year for the Armed Forces Initiative. I cannot thank all our volunteer leaders both new and seasoned for everything they have done in 2022 for the military community and for conservation. There’s much yet to do together and 2023 planning is looking like it’s going to be a great year, but right now I want to focus on all the great events, camps, cleanups and policy initiatives the Armed Forces Initiative took on in 2022. Commander's Intent: Instill within the military ...
