Muster in the Mountains 2021

Author: New York BHA
Muster in the Mountains began in 2019 in Pennsylvania. Canceled by the events of 2020, BHA is glad to bring this eastern gathering back for 2021! This time our site host is Mike Barcone and his crew of merry beermakers at West Kill Brewing. Set on a wooded hillside above its namesake West Kill (creek in Dutch), and on the edge of the Hunter-West Kill Wilderness, the sprawling brewery grounds and the adjoining forests and fields will be the setting for our weekend of outdoor events.   If ...

Support hunting expansion on federal lands in New York, elsewhere

Author: New York BHA
Just over a year after the Department of the Interior (DOI) proposed to expand hunting and angling access on more than 2.3 million acres of public land, they're at it again, and we at NY BHA want to tell them it's a great idea.Specifically, DOI is looking to increase opportunities on an additional 2.1 million acres at 90 national wildlife refuges and on the lands of one national fish hatchery managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS). So, in just two years, we're looking at ...

New York BHA Chapter Update - Spring 2021

Author: New York BHA
From the Chair I hope this newsletter finds everyone ready to hit the turkey woods Saturday morning, or to just get out and enjoy the outdoors whatever your pleasure. This past Sunday I was out enjoying a fine spring morning walk with my wife and two dogs on our property. We heard grouse drumming, geese a honking, cows lowin’, bees working, birds singing, and the ever familiar clippity-clop of the horses pulling the Amish buggies to worship service. I just couldn’t help to notice how in sync ...

New York BHA Chapter Update - Winter 2021

Author: New York BHA
From the Chair I hope this newsletter finds everyone healthy as we put 2020 in the rearview mirror and give our full attention to 2021. I also hope everyone had a successful hunting season by whatever measure you use. It’s hard to believe hunting season is already behind us and the hard water season is upon us. Where I come from “hard water” had a totally different meaning, who knew one could actually walk on water, drill a hole through it, and drop a line...Crazy! The New York chapter is ...

New York BHA Chapter Update – Fall 2020

Author: New York BHA
From the Chair: What a year this has been! I hope this finds everyone in good health. Like most the New York chapter has been figuring out how to navigate in the new climate we now live in. The last in-person event was the Public Grouse film showing in Syracuse. The event was well attended, and we had a lot more planned until Covid 19 hit. Since then we have added two teams: Our Regional Events Coordinator Team, who recently hosted a Virtual Learn to Hunt series and plans to host more in the ...

New York hosts Virtual Learn to Hunt Series

Author: New York BHA
Throughout the Public Lands Month of September, a few of the members of the New York Chapter of BHA put together a series of Virtual Learn to Hunt Zoom meetings. The increase in people taking the education and safety course, as well as the dramatic increase in license sales this year in New York, indicates that more and more of us are taking to the woods and outdoors to ...

Keep New York's Environmental Protection Fund Dedicated to Conservation Projects

Author: New York BHA
Since 1993, New York’s Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) has served as one of the most important sources of funding in the state for public land and water conservation projects that enhance public hunting and fishing access . Sportsmen and women were pleased to again see Governor Cuomo request $300 million for the EPF program in his proposed budget. In recent years, the EPF has helped secure new public hunting, fishing and recreational access to tens of thousands of acres of lands and ...
