Position: Major Gifts Officer, Full Time (40 hours)

Location: Missoula, MT

Reports to: Director of Operations

Description:

BHA seeks a major gifts officer to lead our development program and join our energetic and growing team. This individual will work to design, develop and implement a major giving and planned giving program for BHA and oversee other development-related work by the organization. The successful candidate will identify, cultivate, steward and solicit new donor prospects; create and implement marketing plans; and organize fundraising related programs/events. This position will be expected to travel across the U.S. and Canada to engage major donors and develop new relationships.

The ideal candidate must be able to work with little supervision and be flexible and organized in a fast-paced work environment. This position requires the ability to exercise good judgment, make responsible decisions, analyze problems, evaluate strategies, accurately document activities, prepare timely and complete reports, adhere to standards of confidentiality, and communicate effectively. The successful candidate will adhere to BHA’s mission and philosophy.

Primary Responsibilities:

The major gifts officer will engage in the following:

  • Design and implement a major gift donor stewardship and planned giving program;
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit major and planned gifts from individuals to support BHA’s mission;
  • Assist the BHA national board as well as president and CEO in solicitations of major gifts;
  • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition;
  • Collaborate with BHA staff to assist in achieving annual fundraising goals;
  • Oversee annual giving, events and corporate relations programs;
  • Perform other duties as determined by the director of operations and president and CEO.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • He or she must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the six-figure range.

  • He or she must be innovative and a creative thinker with a proven success of following through with his/her ideas.

  • He or she must be a hunter and/or angler with a willingness to work flexible hours and travel across the country.

  • He or she must conduct work with integrity, good humor and a focus on developing partnerships, building trust and strengthening professional relationships.

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, plus a minimum of four years of practical experience in major gift solicitation.

  • He or she must demonstrate the ability to work with and interact with sportsmen and women and have a knowledge of current and historical public lands and waters conservation issues, hunting, fishing, economics and the current political landscape.

  • He or she must be innovative and a resourceful self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.

  • He or she must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • He or she must be able to lift 25 pounds and have a valid driver’s license.

Starting Salary: Dependent on experience
