Join Kansas BHA at Lyon County State Lake to take part in a habitat improvement project. Lyon County State Lake is a reservoir surrounded by native tallgrass prairie that offers opportunities for hunting, fishing, trapping and camping. Located 20 minutes from Emporia and less than 1 hour from Topeka, Lyon County State Lake provides an important point of access. BHA volunteers will work with KDWP to clear trees and brush to improve access and habitat quality.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring chainsaws and other tree removal equipment, but will be required to provide their own personal protection equipment (including ear/eye protection, gloves, chaps, etc). All volunteers should bring leather work gloves and eye protection.
Volunteers will need to sign either the electronic liability waiver in advance or a paper waiver the day of the event. This project is open to all who have a desire to protect our public lands.
We will plan to start at 9 AM.
Meeting Location: The shelter house that is south of the dam and on the west side of Road T. (GPS Coordinates: 38.542327, -96.057383)
Following the project, BHA will provide lunch.
We hope you can join us to improve our public lands and support public access!
