Fair-chase hunting requires practice. For rifle hunters, that means shooting. We appreciate the multiple-use aspect of our public lands, including many DNRC state lands in Montana that allow recreational target shooting. Outside of Bozeman near the Logan Landfill, a user-created target shooting area sees a ton of use, but people seemed to have forgotten about the #publiclandowner mantra and certainly haven't been treating these lands with a sense of ownership and respect. The lands are a mess. But we're hoping to correct that.
Join us on May 1st as we clean up trash and shooting materials that litter the grounds. Our hope is to remind our fellow hunters and shooters to leave their lands better than they found them, and that multiple use only works if groups are conscious of their impacts and work to mitigate those; this applies to the front country as well as the backcountry.
We'll meet at 8:30am and get to work cleaning up as much as we can. The Logan Landfill has generously agreed to allow us to dispose of collected garbage free of charge. Please wear clothes and footwear that offer protection. Water and snacks will be provided. We ask that volunteers bring work gloves, 5-gallon buckets, wheel barrow, utility wagon, steel rake, scoop shovel, if possible. Once the cleanup is done, please stick around to have some fire-grilled lunch, courtesy of our fantastic friends at Burch Barrel.
