A special designation

President Barack Obama designated an area known as Rio Grande del Norte as a national monument. As a conservative conservationist and site steward, as well as a National Park Service retiree, it is important to thank the president for realizing the importance of this designation, and share about why the Rio Grande del Norte is special: It offers a range of outdoor activities including hiking, fishing and camping. Hunters will attest to the region’s ecosystem containing a variety of wildlife. There’s the rich cultural and historical importance of the region. We have a national treasure right here in New Mexico. Anyone looking for sport, fresh air, or a chance to see Northern New Mexico’s unique history come to life, a visit to Rio Grande del Norte should be in your future. Thanks to President Obama and efforts of local leaders including Sen. Jeff Bingaman, the Rio Grande del Norte will be protected for the future.
