Please join the Kansas Chapter of BHA for a work weekend (June 11th-13th) at Cheney Wildlife Area near Cheney, Kansas! Members from all over the state will assemble to help with reconstruction of the Deweese Campground under the supervision of the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. This is a free to use campground on 5400 acres of public hunting area!! We will specifically be creating identifiable campsites by clearing brush, installing new concrete-based fire rings and creating new paths to the river. The campground will be closed to the public for the entire weekend, with camping available only to working volunteers. You won't want to miss this chance to get your boots on the ground in the name of outdoor recreation, so RSVP now!
The work weekend will include a Friday night (June 11th) welcome with a discussion of backcountry nutrition. Michelle Ratzlaff will discuss how to ‘Stay Fueled in the Backcountry Without Breaking Your Back or Your Bank Account.’ BHA will provide breakfast on Saturday and the work day begins at 8:00 AM. Saturday will be the day most of the work gets done. Bring your own lunch and then get ready for a big dinner! Waltons will bring their smoker trailer to the campground with plenty of meat for all our volunteers! BHA will provide sides and dessert. Bring your tent or trailer and join us as we have our first Kansas BHA Campout Project! Camp out on Friday and/or Saturday night and then finish our work on Sunday. Contact us at [email protected]or call Josh Nicolay at 316/204-5212 with additional questions.

The Kansas Chapter of BHA has developed a great working relationship with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism with several projects in the past two years. This project is a major step forward in that relationship as we will be rebuilding and refurbishing an entire campground. We need all hands on deck for this project!! Please come out to provide some sweat equity for our public lands.
