The newest issue of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers' magazine is available today
MISSOULA, Mont. – The spring issue of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers’ quarterly magazine, Backcountry Journal, is reaching the homes of BHA members across North America this week. From conservation success stories to backcountry experiences and wild game recipes, this issue is not to be missed. Here’s a highlight reel:
Remembering Public Lands Warrior Tony Schoonen: “For nearly 70 years, Tony Schoonen was above all else a bare-fisted brawler for wild country and his bone-deep conviction that ‘blue-collar people should be able to hunt and fish.’” Schoonen’s story as told by BHA life member Dan Crockett will inspire you to continue to battle for the places you love.
Pennsylvania Wins on Sunday Hunting: Keystone State hunters celebrated a hard-won victory late last year when Gov. Tom Wolf signed into law a bill allowing the pursuit of deer and other species on three Sundays starting in the 2020-21 season. Read about how members of Pennsylvania BHA worked with other sportsmen and women in the state to make it happen.
Bring My Ashes Here: BHA member David Sumner recounts three generations of his family exploring Utah’s Uinta Mountains. His story will get your own memories flowing: fishing, horses, campfires, rugged scenery and your first backpacking adventure into the wilderness.
Morel Hunting 101: “All hail the mighty morel!” BHA member and renowned chef Hank Shaw, of Hunter Angler Gardener Cook, gives us the lowdown on how to find morel mushrooms, as well as when to pick them, where to look for them and how to cook them.
Worth the Wait: On a public lands turkey hunt, journalist Christine Peterson considers an ethical dilemma perennially faced by hunters – when do you decide, or not, to pull the trigger? – in the context of why it took her five years to shoot her first gobbler.
Backcountry Journal is distributed to BHA members, elected officials and land management agencies. It also is available in a digital flipbook edition, available to members on the BHA website. Join BHA today to get your copy.
