Pennsylvania: BHA vs. CWD encourages hunters to get deer tested

Whitetail_doe.JPGHunters are needed in the fight against Chronic Wasting Disease. Increased harvesting and testing of deer in CWD areas is crucial to halting its spread. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has released its new CWD management plan. Its core components are hunter participation along with increased hunting opportunities. An increased number of DMAP permits along with regular antlerless tag allocations have been made available to encourage hunters to harvest more deer and submit them for testing. But the plan only works if we have hunters taking advantage of these new opportunities.

In that spirit, the Pennsylvania Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is offering additional incentives for those who submit deer for testing with its BHA vs. CWD promotion.

Those who harvest a deer in a CWD Disease Management Area (DMA) and submit the head for testing are eligible to win:

  • First Prize: PA BHA hat, the latest Pennsylvania T-shirt, and a one-year BHA Membership.
  • Second prize: BHA T-shirt and BHA hat

Enter by submitting one of the following:

  1. A picture of you placing the head in a drop bin
  2. A picture of your deer’s test results from the testing

Send submissions to [email protected] with the subject line “BHA vs CWD”. Hunters who harvest multiple deer in a DMA are able to submit each deer for more chances to win. A winner will be randomly selected after all hunting seasons close in 2021.
