Horse Prairie Fence Pull with NWF

Join Montana BHA and National Wildlife Federation June 3-4 for a boots-on-the-ground weekend stewardship project to help improve pronghorn migration corridors and sage-grouse habitat in SW Montana!

We'll be removing one mile of woven fence along a BLM/private land boundary to allow for the construction of an entirely new, wildlife-friendly fence. This area is critical sage-grouse habitat and an important pronghorn and elk migration corridor, meaning we'll be improving three huntable critters' habitat at once with these efforts. The project is a collaboration with private landowners, Montana FWP, the BLM, NWF and Montana BHA.

Since our members are no strangers to getting away from roads, our task will be to focus on the more remote and difficult-to-access sections of the fence about a mile from motorized routes.

The West Cameahwait Group Use Area at Clark Canyon Reservoir (the meeting place) has been reserved for volunteers to camp the nights of Friday June 2 and Saturday June 3.

We'll be providing dinner for folks Saturday night; donuts and coffee will be provided Saturday and Sunday. Participants are asked to plan their own dinner Friday night, and pack a lunch for Saturday (we'll have coolers).

All volunteers are asked to meet at the campsite at 8:30am on the 3rd with hopes of wrapping up in the early afternoon before the hottest part of the day. Volunteers are welcome to arrive the morning of and not camp, but need to be ready to go bright and early.

Similar game plan for Sunday, 8:30am meeting time and we'll be done with the work by noon, giving people plenty of time to travel home.

No running water is available. Volunteers are asked to come prepared with at least 2 liters of drinking water for the workdays, their own food (besides dinner Saturday night and donuts Sat/Sun), work gloves, sunglasses, proper hiking boots and sunscreen (there is very little, if any, shade to be found a the work site). A small day pack may be helpful.

Due to the nature of the work, children and dogs are not allowed.

Please only RSVP if you are confident you can attend and comfortable making that commitment.

Thank you!
