Are you interested in backpacking and/or backpack hunting but don’t know where to start? Are you already an experienced backpacker? If you answered yes to either of these questions you should join the Indiana Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers on May 20th at 9am Eastern on a hike through the beloved Charles Deam Wilderness. We will have a group of experienced backpackers who will walk you through how and what to bring backpacking and then embark on a 6 mile trek through the trails of the forest. We recommend bringing adequate water, clothing, and snacks. A small group of us will plan to primitive backpack camp, if interested please contact the event leader!
The secondary objective of this event is to focus on how hiking and rucking assist with physical and mental preparation for backcountry excursions! Many of our participants in the past have chosen to ruck during this event to help increase both their physical and mental strength, which is essential in the backcountry!
“Rucking is the action of walking with weight on your back. Walking with a weighted backpack is a low impact exercise based on military training workouts”
So no matter if you want to come out and get test out your lightest weight gear or if you want to strap on a heavy load for endurance, this will be a fantastic event for everyone!
We will be meeting at the parking area of the Hickory Ridge Fire Tower and be ready to start our journey at 9am! Please RSVP if you plan to attend and especially if you plan to stay out overnight. Overnight participants will be subject to bringing their own food and water, so please contact the event lead to coordinate!
We can't wait to see you on the trail!
