Come join front-range BHA members and friends on July 23rd for a hike-to-fish event in the James Peak Wilderness. We will be meeting at the East Portal trailhead in Rollinsville at 8am on the 23rd and hike to two lakes that contain cutthroat trout. Those who attend will have the option of day hiking or backpacking with the group.
For those who decide to day hike, the trip will be approximately 9 miles round trip with 2000ft of elevation gain. Those who decide to backpack will have the ability to break this challenging hike up into two days, each consisting of ~4.5 miles, gaining 2000ft of elevation on the way to the lakes, and losing that on the way back. We will set up camp near the lower lake and fish throughout the afternoon/evening before gathering at camp again to chat about alpine lake tactics and public lands.
We will fish the morning of the second day and break camp early in the afternoon, with plans to be back at the parking lot around 2:30PM on July 24th. BHA will not be supplying any gear for this trip, those who attend must have fishing and hiking/backpacking equipment.
