Come join fellow BHA members on our public lands as we backpack & fish in the Kaiser Wilderness on August 2-4, 2024!
There will be a brief service project at or near the trailhead on the morning of Friday, August 2. In the afternoon, we will plan to depart the trailhead with overnight gear and hike about 5 miles to a remote lake to setup camp. From there, we can launch into a few other nearby lakes full of hungry brook trout and bring them back to camp for a group fish feed where we can share recipes, cooking methods and stories. We will return to the trailhead on Sunday, at your leisure.
This is a true public lands wilderness experience, so you are responsible for bringing your own gear, food and supplies. You should also be in adequate physical condition to hike 5-6 miles at high elevation (8,000 – 10,000 feet) with a fully-loaded pack of your personal gear. At some of the lakes, the fishing is usually easy & great for beginners. At other lakes, it can be more challenging. If you’ve ever wanted to try out fly fishing, this is a great place to start.
Our wilderness permit is limited to 15 people. If we max out, you are welcome to secure your own permit through Sierra National Forest or simply camp at the trailhead & hike in each day.
This is a free event. However, you must reserve your space by purchasing a $35 per person ticket, which will be refunded to you after the trip if you show up. Alternatively, you can have the ticket fee credited toward your annual BHA membership or use it to purchase a membership for somebody else.
When: Friday August 2, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
Where: Kaiser Wilderness, about 2 hours northeast of Fresno. Trailhead & destination details will be announced in a separate email, after you register.
