event_description: Start your New Year in the Backcountry! For this Hike to Hunt and Fish adventure, well hike into a high alpine lake to catch trout through the ice. Bait, tackle and ice augers are provided, but you will need to have your own fishing rods, and be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen. While ice rods are great, any lighter spinning outfit works.We will meet in Boulder at 5:30 am to carpool, then about an hour drive to the trailhead, two mile hike (its not much gain in elevation), fish until early afternoon, then hike down the mountain to grab a bite and brew at a local watering hole.The primary fish species are brookies, but opportunities for cutthroat and rainbow exist. Fish are usually in the 12-14 inch range.What to bring:Fishing rods, money for lunch, water, sunscreen, and whatever you need to hike 4 miles at elevation and be comfortable in cold, possibly bitter cold and windy conditions. You will not need snowshoes.Specific details (including meeting location, carpooling info, etc) will be provided by email week of. This event is subject to cancellation due to weather, trail and/or ice conditions, and if that is the case, participants will be notified by email beforehand.
