Great news! Lac Qui Parle Land Sale Approved!

The Minnesota state land exchange board just approved the sale of 80 acres of land owned by Jo’s Family Farm, LLC to the DNR today. This ends an over two year battle by the landowner to sell his land to the state of Minnesota.

This is a major victory for both private landowners who want to sell land to units of government and public landowners who need access to quality public land for hunting fishing and outdoor recreation.

Your Minnesota BHA board and chapter members provided both written and oral testimony supporting this acquisition at today’s meeting.

The Lac qui Parle board opposed this acquisition and provided testimony in support of their opposition.

All three of the Land Exchange Board members, the Governor, AG, and Auditor voted in support of the acquisition by the DNR. They recognized two salient facts. The preeminent right of a private landowner to sell land to whomever they choose, and the right under law and participatory government for the county to object, and for all of us to be heard. This is a tremendous win for public access in the state of Minnesota.
