event_description: Come join NMBHA to remove fencing from an inactive grazing allotment in the Gila Wilderness. This is a great chance to meet public land owners from around the state to do a little conservation work and possibly a little scouting for years or hunts to come. Lunch on Saturday will be provided by Gila National Forest and well have a potluck in camp that evening. Thank you for your RSVP to our Gila National Forest Fence Removal project February 18-19. Volunteers can plan to arrive at camp Friday. We will work Saturday and wrap things up and head home Sunday. Those who wish to join in Saturday but not camp out Friday night can meet at the campsite at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning.Schedule: - 9 am Saturday: Meet at the parking spot (33.07841, -108.01032) along North Star Mesa Road - Saturday day: Remove fencing- Saturday late afternoon/evening: Return to camp for potluck- Sunday: Travel homeWhat to bring: Leather gloves, safety glasses, fence tools (pliers, post puller, etc), water bottle, personal snacks, proper clothing for working outside and removing fence, and a dish to share at the potluck campout for Saturday night. Worksite Location & Directions: Gila Backcountry - Turkey Cienega Tank (33.07757, -108.03099)Parking area for the worksite is 11.5 miles north of Hwy 35 / North Star Road junction along North Star Road. From the parking area, it is a 1.25 mile hike via trail to the Turkey Cienega Tank work site.  The campsite is an approximate 1 hour drive from Silver City, NM.Please note that due to winter weather you may not be able to reach the work area via Forest Rd. 150 if coming from the North by Beaverhead. This latest snow will likely make Rocky Canyon difficult to get through. If this is the case, you can reach the work area from the south via Mimbres.Camp: Camping will be available at the Celebration Camp area. We will have a reserved group site Friday and Saturday. Its easy access and those with trailers will appreciate the space. Camp is 3 miles past the North Star Mesa Rd on Hwy 35 as youre going towards Lake Roberts. Turn off is on the left.
