Gila National Forest Fence Removal

thumbnail.jpg

Come join NMBHA to remove fencing from a terminated grazing allotment in the Gila National Forest. This is a great chance to meet public land owners from around the state to do a little conservation work and possibly a little scouting for years or hunts to come. Lunch on Saturday, June 30 will be provided by Gila National Forest and we'll have a potluck in camp that evening.

Schedule: We will work Saturday and wrap things up and head home Sunday. Meet at the parking spot (33.07841, -108.01032) along North Star Mesa Road at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning.

What to bring: Leather gloves, safety glasses, fence tools (pliers, post puller, etc), water bottle, personal snacks, proper clothing for working outside and removing fence, and a dish to share at the potluck campout for Saturday night.

Worksite Location & Directions: Gila Backcountry - Turkey Cienega Tank (33.07757, -108.03099)

Parking area for the worksite is 11.5 miles north of Hwy 35 / North Star Road junction along North Star Road.  From the parking area, it is a 1.25 mile hike via trail to the Turkey Cienega Tank work site.  The campsite is an approximate 1 hour drive from Silver City, NM.
