At camp you can expect we’ll cover the following topics: turkey habitat and habits, e-scouting with OnX, calling, set up, shot placement, use of decoys, hunting methods, field dressing, backcountry medicine, display considerations, the history of public lands, how public lands and wildlife are managed, how public lands and wildlife management are funded, how the legislative process works, how to engage with legislators and policy influencers, current military and public land legislation and policy issues. These topics will be covered one-on-one with your mentor or as a group.
We will provide food and beverages and prepare all meals. The site does not have potable water; however, we will bring in water and will resupply it as needed. If you can bring 5 gallons of water with you, please do. There are no toilets and no showers. Please plan to LEAVE NO TRACE. You are expected to provide your own camping and hunting gear. Make sure you have full coverage camouflage and a shotgun. We have a limited ability to assist with gear or equipment, so if there’s a need, let us know and we can probably figure it out. If you don’t have calls or decoys, don’t worry about it, your mentor will handle that.
You’ll each need to purchase a North Carolina Hunting License. Everything can be purchased online at: https://www.ncalvin.org/Alvin/Security/Login.aspx?public=license. There are several options available and if you have questions please do not hesitate to reach out. Make sure to print and bring your license and harvest tags. A word on the enclosures. The packing list is what we recommend having on hand. It’s up to you whether you choose to follow it or not. The topics on the schedule are subject to change days and times, the topics themselves may change. The timeline, however, should not change.
Please note attendance is limited.
