Position Description: Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is the sportsmen’s voice for our wild public lands, waters and wildlife. We are seeking a fun and motivated individual with a passion for hunting, fishing, and conservation as a summer intern to assist with daily operations, data entry and management, event promotion and coordination and, membership recruitment and retention.  

 

The purpose of this program is to engage youth in public lands conservation and advocacy and to develop future conservation leaders. Under the direction of our chapter coordinator team, the intern will have a strong focus on member events planning and coordination. These events are important for spreading BHA’s message as well as membership retention and recruitment so dedication to our mission and values is crucial. On top of the event coordination, the intern will be expected to provide support to staff through data entry and management, communication to our membership through emails and phone, and assist staff on projects and errands.

 

Specifically, the summer intern will be expected to

  • Provide support to program staff on special projects and initiatives
  • Enter and manage membership data
  • Event promotion and coordination
  • Membership recruitment

 

Qualifications: The summer intern should have a strong interest in conservation, public policy, hunting and fishing. Candidates should be undergraduates, pursuing a degree in environmental studies, forestry, wildlife biology, natural resources planning and interpretation, or a closely related field. They must be committed to our purpose and mission and can work with the public in a professional manner at various member recruitment events, public lands rallies and fundraising events. Qualified applicants should be self-starters and outgoing with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
