EVENT RECAP: Mt. Haggin WMA Willow Creek Acquisition Work Day

In December 2022, the ink dried on the 829 acres Willow Creek Acquisition to Mt. Haggin WMA near Anaconda. However, this land needed a little work to get it ready for wildlife and recreation.

On Friday, May 12th, 2023, Montana BHA teamed up FWP and other groups such as Anaconda Sportsman’s Club to help with a work day. Over 40 volunteers worked on foot and on ATV to remove over 2 miles of unnecessary 4-5 strand barbed wire fencing & improve 0.3 miles of boundary fence to improve wildlife migration, build a parking area, move the boundary gate and sign, and treat 60 acres of cheat grass.

Rolls and rolls of barbed wire fence were collected, and stories were shared about outdoor experiences around the area while the team worked. The BHA crew was split into 2 groups, and both put in a lot of work to get everything collected and cleaned up! This was the first project led by the new Montana Tech BHA Collegiate Club and we have to say, we're pretty impressed! A huge thank you to the BHA volunteers, Montana FWP, Anaconda Sportsman’s Club, and all the others that came out to help clean the area up!
