Did you know that eastern elk once inhabited New York's Adirondack Mountains and surrounding areas? Join conservationist and New York BHA chapter leader Todd Waldron for a 30-minute video talk and presentation about the intriguing history of elk in New York State.
When most of us think of elk, we think of the Rocky Mountain West. Places like Montana, Colorado and Wyoming. Elk once ranged throughout the eastern US, including in the Adirondacks.
Todd provides a rundown of the historical range of eastern elk in the Northeast, documented sightings and archeological findings through the mid 1800s; when and where the last elk in the Adirondacks was harvested and the last sighting of wild elk in the Adirondacks. He also covers Twentieth Century reintroduction efforts in the Adirondacks and a DEC/RMEF Feasibility Study in the late 1990s.
Todd is host of the Outdoor Feast Podcast by Modern Carnivore, a life member and volunteer for New York Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, a Hunt To Eat ambassador and a forestry professional with F&W Forestry Services in Glens Falls NY. He lives in the southeastern Adirondacks and enjoys spending time outdoors with his family.
RSVP for this free event by midnight Saturday, June 13 and we will email you a link to watch Todd’s presentation any time you like from June 14 through June 18. The email will be sent early Sunday morning.
On Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m. EST, Todd will be live on the New York Chapter’s Facebook page to host a discussion and answer questions about the eastern elk.
