We have an exciting work project on public lands recently acquired through the Land Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). This property will provide great hunting and fishing access, but first the BLM and the Western Colorado Conservation Corps (WCCC) needs some help clearing brush and shuttling posts and cable down to the parking lot area and perimeter that is being constructed to help protect this sensitive riparian area.
Volunteers will help remove brush within the footprint of the parking lot area. The work is likely to be difficult and will include the removal of tamarisk. We're hoping to be able to stage post and cable materials at the work site for the WCCC crew which will include about 365' steel posts and approximately 370' of 3/4" cable.
We will meet at the Hawkeye staging area directly across from the Mack exit.
This kind of project is exactly why we advocated for permanent reauthorization and fully dedicated funding for LWCF. Now that the advocacy is done it's time to get our boots on the ground to help the BLM and WCCC with the final stage of implementation before this property is open to the public.
Please RSVP if you are interested in helping out.
