The Colorado Backcountry Hunters & Anglers 9th annual Rendezvous is scheduled for June 2-4, 2017 (nights of June 2nd &
June 3rd). We’ll be setting up camp in the Group campground at Sylvan Lake State Park about 15 miles south of Eagle. For detailed directions visit this map.
Sylvan Lake SP is located in the White River National Forest (which encompasses 2.3 million acres, eight Wilderness areas, and 10 mountain peaks over 14,000 feet) and includes a 42-acre lake. Camp will be located at the Sylvan Lake SP Group Site.
The event will begin as folks drift in Friday afternoon and evening, with an extended social hour and, weather permitting, a group campfire (feel free to bring along some wood and an extra water jug or two to assist with thoroughly extinguishing evening campfires). We’ll begin breaking camp Sunday morning/afternoon.
Overall, this will be a relaxed, mostly unstructured “get acquainted” weekend. However, a training session for Habitat Watch Volunteers (HWV), and other interested members, will begin in camp at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, facilitated by chapter HWV program coordinator, Don Holmstrom, and Central West Slope Regional Director, Craig Grother. At 4:00 p.m., we’ll start a general membership meeting, where we can exchange ideas, congrats, frustrations, etc.
The membership meeting will be followed by a group wild game cookout, with CO BHA supplying sides, chips/dip, etc. If you have game you’d like to contribute, please let chapter vice chair Matt Kenna know so he can coordinate. For anyone willing/able to haul in a load of community firewood, the contribution will be greatly appreciated (again, let Matt know to coordinate). We can also use an extra grill/stove or two. Feel free to bring along family and friends who may be interested in BHA.
You can read about the 2016 CO Rendezvous in the San Isabel National Forest here and look at photos from last year's event here!
Please email Matt Kenna if you think you’ll join us so we know how many to plan for, if you have any questions, and/or if you have wild game or firewood you can bring. We’ll send out another announcement or two as the Rendezvous date nears, and will post this announcement on the CO BHA website. We look forward to seeing you in camp!
