Colorado Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Appoint Sid White To Northern Front Range Assistant Regional Director Position

The Colorado chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA) appointed Sid White to serve as an Assistant Regional Director for the Northern Front Range Group/region.

Sid started fishing at 4 years old and hunting around 8 or 9. He grew up in north Alabama and hunted/fished there and in southern Tennessee. “I cut my teeth chasing bream, catfish, the occasional trout, waterfowl, upland birds, and white-tailed deer,” Sid explained. “My primary mentor was my grandfather, and I also spent lots of time hunting and fishing with my dad, my younger brother, and friends.”

These days Sid can be found fly-fishing all over the Front Range. He also fishes elsewhere in Colorado and Montana, as time permits. “My favorite fish to chase are any kind of trout, especially Cutthroats,” he said. “Since moving to Colorado, I’ve also taken up elk hunting. All of my hunting these days takes place in Colorado.”

Sid first heard about BHA on the MeatEater Podcast. After learning more about the organization, he realized that BHA shared his values and became a Life Member. “I’m interested in volunteering for Colorado BHA because wild things and wild places have inspired me and given me great joy and satisfaction in my life,” he emphasized. “It is important to me to maintain and expand access to public lands and waters so that all are able to enjoy the incredible wilds of Colorado and North America in general.” In addition to being a BHA Life Member, he’s also a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Trout Unlimited.

Sid added that he’s excited about being a Colorado BHA chapter leader for multiple reasons: “I want to do my part to advocate for public lands and public access. I am excited to connect with other like-minded individuals in Colorado and nationally, and work together as a team to further BHA's mission. And, I’m excited about the prospect of introducing first time hunters or anglers to these great pursuits and would love to grow our ranks, particularly among younger adults or those who may not come from a hunting/fishing family and who struggle to find mentors.”

“Public lands, waters, and wildlife were a big reason for my move to Colorado. I have an unending curiosity and desire to explore ‘whatever is over that hill over there’ and the public access available in Colorado, and the West in general, is important to my lifestyle,” he said. “In addition, the satisfaction of chasing game and fish on public lands is second to none. I appreciate the privilege that is the tremendous amount of public land accessible to us in the U.S. and I am committed to preserving and increasing that land and access for myself, others, and for future generations.”
