Are you a new or nearly new hunter? Are you a disabled veteran? Do you live in CO? Can you be in shape to hunt rugged high elevation country in beautiful SW CO by Sept 19th?
If you can answer yes to all questions, then Colorado AFI has an opportunity of a lifetime for you. We are seeking 4 disabled veterans that have been hunting for 0 to 2 years to participate in a mentored hunt in conjunction with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and a private ranch in CO Game Management Unit (GMU) 70.
You and your mentor (provided by BHA) will have full access to portions of a private ranch near Norwood, CO with the opportunity to hunt antlerless elk with a license provided by CPW. You will also have the chance to obtain a private land only bear tag for this weekend. While this hunt will be within the archery elk season it is a special hunt and these tags are from a hunter recruitment pool, thus you will be able to hunt with a rifle. You need to have passed hunter education and be qualified to hold a hunting license in CO.
To be a good applicant for this disabled veteran hunt, you also need to be able to hike for several miles per day above 8,000 feet in steep and rough terrain. This hunt will provide a qualified veteran an excellent opportunity to fill the freezer and learn alongside a more experienced hunter. Our goal is to provide new hunters the opportunity to add to their hunting skillset to help them on the path to becoming a self-sufficient hunter. This is your opportunity to advance your knowledge and skills working by directly with a mentor. Our goal is to get you, the new hunter, on game and help reduce the learning curve as you progress toward becoming a self-sustaining hunter.
