California BHA Summer 2016 Update

The California Chapter will have a table at the North American Longbow Safari, July 2 and 3, hosted by Traditional Archers of California, in Petaluma. We are looking for members to help man our table, and to talk to folks about who we are, what we do, and why others should care about our wild heritage! A couple of us are going to be shooting this event, but if you are coming out just to staff the table, entry fees will be waived. If you have never helped staff one of these events, it is a great way to meet your fellow members and others, as well as a great excuse to spend a nice day in the sun!

Two of our membership committee members are organizing trail clean-ups in Los Padres National Forest, Monterey Ranger District. We already have a signed agreement from the Assistant Recreation Officer. These clean-ups will be happening throughout the summer months and into the fall. We will be looking for volunteers from Chapter members and members of the public as well. Should be a good time not only doing productive, needed work but also a great way to meet people and introduce them to BHA. Please keep visiting our Facebook page for upcoming dates and times. I've seen firsthand just how much trash is out there in what should be our most pristine forest areas in our state and this type of work can repair the damage done by irresponsible users of our precious public lands.

One of our members in San Diego will have a BHA table set up at a large archery event being held there on Sunday June 19. The King Arthur Tournament, held on Father’s Day each year, is a 40 target, 80 arrow (two arrows per target), Knights of the Round Table-themed tournament. This one of the largest events held by the San Diego Archers each year and draws archers from all over So. Calif and beyond. This should be another good opportunity to meet people and introduce them to BHA.

Some of us will be joining legislators and staff members for what should be a fun day of skeet shooting on June 22nd at the Outdoor Sporting Caucus Annual Trap and Skeet Shoot in Rancho Cordova CA.

At least one of our Chapter members (me) will be joining legislators and staff members on July 14th at the Outdoor Sporting Caucus Offshore Fishing Trip in Dana Point CA.
