PLEASE NOTE - UPDATED MEETING LOCATION AS OF 2/27/19
Texas BHA is proud to announce our 1st spring Public Lands Work Day, and we'd like to invite you to rally your family and friends, BHA members and non-members alike, to take part in this event at one of the various public properties across Texas, all of which allow public hunting and/or fishing.
MEETING LOCATION: The new meetup location will be Valley View Group Use Facility. This is a fairly well-known location with lots of parking, a covered pavilion (good for meeting up in the morning and eating lunch out of the rain), and bathroom facilities. Google map to meeting location Please arrive promptly at 8 am so we can caravan to the work site together.
TX BHA will provide lunch to all participants, so PLEASE RSVP below if you know you can attend. "Lunch will be provided (on site) by Rooster's Roadhouse, courtesy of TX BHA. Also consider bringing work gloves and a pair of boots. Rubber gloves, trash bags, etc. will be provided. Looking forward to seeing you out there!
PRIMARY PROJECT: The main project will be a cleanup of Units 15 and 76, which was just burned. It should be easy to spot big trash that didn’t burn. A 4 mi stretch of the Orange Trail runs through here too so we will likely use that for access and also will remove any small trees and debris that may fallen across it during the burn. The Forest Service is also going to try to locate some illegal treestands in the area that we can help remove.
SECONDARY PROJECT: Depending on headcount, we also have the option of a second project. It would be painting a 120-ft length of four-pipe fence and gates at the main entrance to the Grasslands. They are trying to complete construction this week, weather depending. There is also a bulletin board here that’s been shot up - we could replace the plywood and do some minor carpentry to get it back into good shape. I should know from the FS guys later this week or early next week whether this second project is available.
