The California Chapter of BHA is supporting the Society for the Conservation of Bighorn Sheep (SCBS) on another water haul and tank replacement project in the Orocopia Mountains near the community of Mecca just east and inland from the Salton Sea. Join us in this vital work to support big horn sheep habitat in Southern California!

One of the guzzler tanks was replaced by an SCBS crew back in 2015. Last year, they believe a ram punched a hole in the old brittle plastic of Tank #2. The plan is to replace the two old tanks with new ones in kind. The volunteer team will also need to re-stretch the rain collection mat and pile additional rocks on the mat to prevent wind from getting under the hypalon.

Challenges at this site are the steep terrain, as the tanks will have to be hoisted up a 300' hill to get them in place. We can use all the help we can get to move the tanks, hose and water.

If you are interested in participating on this project, please RSVP with CA BHA's Habitat Watch Volunteer, Scott Gibson via email. Additional information will be sent to confirmed volunteers.
