C.F. Phelps WMA Work Day & BBQ

Join Capital Region BHA for a day of giving back during Public Lands Month. We will be cleaning up and improving C.F. Phelps WMA in the morning, and meeting at the Phelps Pond for a family-friendly BBQ afterwards. If you can’t make it to the work day, please feel free to come down to the pond to join us for an afternoon of fun, food, and fishing.

Parking for the work day will be at the Hogue Tract public parking area at 38.46396, -77.75219

The BBQ will be at the Phelps Pond at 38.46396, -77.75219

We will be taking special precautions at this event to follow coronavirus regulations and guidelines, including:
  • Anyone that is not feeling well or is experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 such as fever, shortness or breach or coughing/sneezing, or has been in contact with someone that has recently tested positive should not attend.
  • All participants must bring a face mask. Face masks must be worn whenever a distance of at least 6 feet cannot be maintained.
  • Attendees must follow both handwashing and coughing/sneezing etiquette.

Even if you cannot attend this or another Public Land Pack Out Event, you can still support this effort. Our friends at First Lite have generously offered to donate $5 to BHA for every bag of trash packed out, up to $5,000 during the month of September. First Lite also will be giving away 20 gift cards valued at $100 each to the top 20 public land trash packers. Additionally, 10 gift cards will be given away throughout the month to those who share a photo of the Public Land Pack Out on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #publiclandpackout and #publiclandowner

Grab some garbage bags and help us leave your public lands a little better than you found them, then post your results for a chance to win.

Here’s how you can participate:

  • Pick up trash while you’re out hunting, fishing or hiking on public land and record the total number of bags of trash picked up. Then, submit through the portal here!
  • Share your pictures of public land trash being packed out on social media using the hashtags #publiclandpackout and #publiclandowner.
