In the mountains north of Sandpoint, ITA is hosting a weekend-backpacking project in partnership with Backcountry Hunters & Anglers to improve tread on sections of the Fault Lake Trail. This trail leads to Fault Lake and McCormick Lake and is often used by hikers as well as equestrians. We will be working on improving tread where the trail is sloughing off down the hill and continuing to establish the trails between Fault Lake, McCormick Lake, and Hunt Lake.
After the days work is done, participants can look forward to casting some lines in the alpine lakes surrounding the project. Fault Lake and McCormick lake were stocked with Westslope Cutthroat Trout in 2024 and Hunt Lake was stocked with the same species in 2023.
This is a weekend backpacking project, all personal backpacking equipment is required. Arrive Friday morning to hike in and set up camp, work Saturday and Sunday until afternoon; camp at Fault Lake.
