BHA Responds to Secretary of Agriculture Nomination
Washington, D.C. – President-elect Trump has nominated Brooke Rollins to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, signaling a pivotal moment for hunters, anglers, and conservationists nationwide. Backcountry Hunters & Anglers President and CEO Patrick Berry offered this response:
“We are committed to working with Brooke Rollins as she steps into the role of Secretary of Agriculture to oversee agencies vital to the health of our public lands, waters, and wildlife,” said Berry. “Chief among these is the U.S. Forest Service, which manages 193 million acres of our public lands across 43 states — home to some of our most pristine wilderness areas, including 58 million acres of Roadless Areas, and the headwaters that sustain our rivers and streams.
The USDA also plays a vital role in the coordinated management of chronic wasting disease through the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. With CWD now documented in 35 states, science-based wildlife management will be paramount to the long-term health of cervid species and the future of our hunting traditions.
We look forward to collaborating with Brooke Rollins and the USDA to advance policies that conserve our natural resources, and ensure hunters and anglers can access and enjoy these resources for generations to come,” Berry concluded.
