MISSOULA, Mont. – Backcountry Hunters & Anglers strongly criticized the dismissal of charges against scofflaw rancher Cliven Bundy, his sons and a supporter earlier today.
BHA President and CEO Land Tawney issued the following statement:
“Cliven Bundy and his followers are lawbreakers who continue to disrespect our government, our public lands and waters, and the citizens who own them. They employed scare tactics and lawlessness to steal from the American people. Any missteps taken by federal investigators or prosecutors do not change these fundamental facts. Law abiding citizens must not tolerate the willingness by Mr. Bundy and his comrades to flout the rule of the law and abuse our publicly owned lands.
“Responsible public land owners obey game laws and adhere to hunting and fishing seasons. For public lands management to succeed, it’s critical that all stakeholders demonstrate the same adherence to the laws and be held accountable when they break the law. The Bundys are no better than poachers who steal your public resources then respond with an riot to cover it up.
“Backcountry Hunters & Anglers continues to stand strong in support of the resource managers, law enforcement officials and others who are entrusted as caretakers or our shared lands and waters. We remain committed to ensuring they have the resources to conduct their work effectively and safely. And we vow to redouble our efforts to squelch actions that would undermine our public lands and outdoor heritage.”
Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is the sportsmen’s voice
