event_description: The Capital Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is excited to partner with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries on a work-day to ensure quality public land access on the C.F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area.  Projects for the day may include repairing blinds and clearing shooting lanes in the disabled hunter access area, trail system maintenance, cleaning and repairing the Rappahannock river canoe/kayak launch area and additional projects as identified.Other activities for the day include a Hike to Hunt on the WMA Trail System and a Tailgate Picnic following the service project.Come explore thousands of acres of public land in Northern Virginia, give back by ensuring disabled hunters can access public hunting in our region and meet some new BHA friends. If you can only make it for part of the day, then please come for the work project at 10:00 am.Schedule of Activities: 8:00 am – Hike to Hunt (Meet at the parking area off Rt. 651 (Sumerduck Rd) between Kelly’s Ford and Mt. Holly. Map: F6FJ+FR Mt Holly, Lee, VA) This will be a 6-8 mile hike exploring the interior of the WMA.10:00 am – Hogue Tract Service Project (Meet at the disabled hunter parking are off Rt. 651 (Sumerduck Rd) Northwest of Kelly’s Ford. Map: F6PC+JQ Whitetown, Virginia) Blind Repair, Trail Clearing, Boat Launch Maintenance.12:30 pm (or at completion of projects) – Tailgate Picnic at the disabled hunter parking area off Rt. 651. Burgers, dogs and water provided. Please feel free to bring some chips or sides and all the non-alcoholic beverages you would like.Getting There: The C.F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area, located near the village of Sumerduck, is accessible by route 651, either south from U.S. Route 29 through the Town of Remington, or from U. S. Route 17, one mile north of Goldvein Post Office.
