event_description: Help enhance habitat by removing old barbed wire fencingCAMPING, FOOD, HABITAT IMPROVEMENT!Come join BHA, BLM, and CPW to remove fencing from BLM public lands in critical elk and mule deer habitat on May 31st - June 2 in Eagle, CO. Fencing impacts wildlife movements and are a source of injury and mortality. By removing fencing in critical big game habitat we are improving the habitat permeability of an important landscape critical to big game survival. This is a great chance to meet public land owners from around the state while doing a little conservation work. Lunch and drinks will be provided.You are welcome at any portion of the weekend. Whether that is Saturday or Sunday we would be grateful for your help in removing the fence. Schedule: - Meet Friday afternoon at the Eagle River Brewing Company in Gypsum, CO. BHA will be buying Pizza and the first round of drinks. Starting around 5:30pm - 8pm.- Friday evening, for those that want to camp we will have a campsite secured on BLM land near the fence pull site. The site is approximately 10 miles from Eagle River Brewing Company up CR 21/ Bellyache Rd. See here for directions from the brewery to campsite. There will be signs posted along the road to direct people to the worksite/ campsite. - Saturday 8 am: BHA will brew up coffee in the morning, but campers will be on their own for breakfast. - Saturday 8:30 am: Brief introductions, and safety talk  - 8:30-3:00: Pull fencing with a break for lunch provided by BHA (sandwiches, chips, fruit, drinks) - 6 pm: Potluck dinner at campsite. Bring any food you would like to share with folks (wild game dishes are especially prized).  - Sunday 8 am: BHA will brew up coffee in the morning, but campers will be on their own for breakfast. - 8:30-1pm: Pull fencing with a break for lunch provided by BHA (sandwiches, chips, fruit, drinks). We will wrap up the work early p.m. around 1 or 2 pm so folks have time to travel home. What to bring for the work day:Please bring Leather gloves, safety glasses (sunglasses are fine), and fence tools (pliers, post puller, etc) if you have them but not necessary. Plenty of water, sunscreen, bug spray, and proper clothing for working outside and removing fence (jeans, boots, long-sleeve shirt).Volunteers will need to be able to make a short hike from parking area to project location and be able to pull fence posts, handle pliers to remove and cut wire, coil wire and/or carry old fencing to designated pick up spot.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring leather work gloves, pliers, wire cutters, buckets, water bottle or anything else you feel helpful. Extra gloves, pliers, wire cutters will be available. We will break for lunch at 1:00 pm. Lunch provided by BHA!For those wanting to camp the weekend make sure you have enough food/ fuel for breakfasts, snacks, and 1 dinner.
