Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Run Full-Page Ads Urging CO, OR, CA, and AZ Legislators to Act to Protect Public Lands and Conservation Program

The Ads Will Target Congressional Reps. Boebert (CO), Bentz (OR), Calvert (CA), and Ciscomani (AZ)

Today, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA), an organization representing outdoor sportsmen and women, announced full-page, print ads in Arizona, Oregon, California and Colorado, holding four members of Congress accountable for their vote to pass legislation that would cut funding for public land management and block numerous efforts to conserve fish and wildlife habitat. Properly resourced public land management agencies are vital to supporting fish and wildlife habitat, the foundation of hunting and fishing traditions.

In Colorado, a full-page ad will run in the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, targeting Rep. Lauren Boebert (CO-3). In Oregon, a full-page ad will run in Burns Time Herald, targeting Rep. Cliff Bentz (OR-2). In California, a full-page ad will run in the Palm Springs Desert Sun, targeting Rep. Ken Calvert (CA-41).  In Arizona, a full-page ad will run in Tucson Weekly, targeting Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-6). All four of these legislators voted to drastically cut funding for public lands and to block conservation efforts – and amendments sponsored by Rep. Boebert and Rep. Bentz would prohibit funding for national monument designations to conserve public lands in southwest Colorado  and southeastern Oregon respectively.

“As a community of conservation-minded hunters and anglers, we are fully committed to safeguarding our wild public lands and waters,” said Patrick Berry, President & CEO of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers. “Securing adequate funding for conservation through the congressional appropriations process is paramount to the protection and restoration of habitat that supports robust fish and wildlife populations and offers enriching opportunities for sportsmen and women. In addition to slashing funding for the management of public resources owned by all Americans, amendments to this legislation would block the conservation of the Owyhee Canyonlands in Oregon and the Dolores Canyons in Colorado, priority landscapes that nurture the backcountry experience cherished by the growing community of hunters and anglers.”

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers seeks to ensure North America's outdoor heritage of hunting and fishing in a natural setting, through education and work on behalf of wild public lands, waters, and wildlife.
