Friend —
As I washed the blood off my hands in the cool waters I couldn’t help but think about those who have done the same at this very spot.
Dating back over 10,000 years, Blackfeet and Salish hunters.
Lewis and Clark wrote in their journals about the place where I stood.
The bridge behind me was built when Theodore Roosevelt was president. Horses, trucks and cars have carried many a hunter over this span.
The Maclean brothers no doubt wandered these hills.
My namesake lives just up river.
The connection to the fabric that is hunting woven through history is something I try to regularly pause to take stock in. Small moments spent alone help one reflect, find humility and inspiration. The confluence of shared experiences is damn powerful.
May we celebrate for generations to come!

Onward and Upward!
