Friend —
I often talk about the importance of the individual voice.
Democracy is ruled by those who show up. Said another way, if you aren’t at the table, you are on the menu. Individual voices matter. Leadership matters.
Across North America, you all are stepping up each and every day. It’s what makes BHA, BHA. The legislative session here in Montana has been a doozie. Attempts to privatize wildlife, stacking the deck toward private landowners on the fish and wildlife commission, and trying to eliminate opportunities to add new public lands to the Big Sky State are just a few examples.
Unfortunately, we are seeing attacks on our outdoor heritage across North America. This is nothing new. There have always been and always will be those who don’t act in the best interest for wildlife and wild places. Fortunately, folks like MT Chapter Chair John Sullivan, NC Chapter Chair Luke Weingarten and AR Chapter Chair James Brandenburg continue to answer the call…each and every day. With them come legions of rank-and-file hunters and anglers who are ready to do their part for the resource…each and every time. Whether that’s showing up to testify at the statehouse, making a phone call, or sending an email…it all matters.
We stand on the shoulders of giants and this is our time. What will you do to perpetuate our shared heritage?
Onward and upward,
Land Tawney President and CEO Backcountry Hunters & Anglers
