Friend —
Public Lands Month is here!
We at BHA designated September as Public Lands Month back in 2017 as a way to celebrate our North American lands and waters.
This year in September, we'll be bringing you weekly Public Land Policy Features, highlighting key issues and landscapes where your action is critical. Ranging from conservation of our grasslands habitat to the Arctic North, your voices are needed like never before.
In September we'll also be channeling our community's drive in support of cleaning up our shared lands and waters via BHA’s Public Land Pack-out. Inspired in 2019 by our North Carolina Chapter, the Public Lands Pack-out continues to grow. In our first year, we picked up 600 bags of trash. Last year, in 2020, we netted 4,000. This year we have an audacious goal of 10,000 bags of trash, collected from our lands and waters all across the continent. Thanks to First Lite for stepping up once again as a Pack-out sponsor and donating $3 per bag to BHA…up to 10,000 bags.
With your help, I know we can do it!
I just got back from the glorious Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota with my young family. Otters, loons and northern pike still dance though all of our heads. The best part though, was that coveted third day when all the baggage of the outdoor word sloughs off and we immersed ourselves in the here and now. The stripping away to the bare essentials was just what we all needed. We got to canoe through some of the wildest waters in America, but even better we connected in a real way as a family unit...and I am forever grateful for that experience.
