Backcountry Beat, August 2020 Friend — What a month it’s been. Following overwhelming bipartisan support, the President signed the Great American Outdoors Act into law. Next, we all got a temporary reprieve with the delayed advancement of the Pebble Mine in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Your voice does count when you use it. Thank you!  And what a month it’s going to be! The nights are finally getting cooler. Elk and grouse season both start here in Montana in the next week and many have already been chasing antelope. I’m not only excited to get outside for the chase; I also love the lineup we have for Public Lands Month. You all are the consummate stewards of public lands and waters—the constant clean-up projects attest to that! This month your efforts will be matched by First Lite, which is donating $5 for every bag of trash we pick up in September, up to 1000 bags. That’s an offer of $5000 on the table.
