Become an AFI Volunteer Leader
AFI is currently taking all volunteers. There are multiple options for how to volunteer your time as well as learning opportunities for new or returning hunters and anglers. Additionally, if you would be interested in helping share BHA's work by distributing the Backcountry Journal at your military base Outdoor Recreation Center, please contact: [email protected].
We are seeking volunteer leaders in multiple states and installations. Please fill out the information at the link below or in the sign up box below to start the application process. For a complete list of current state and installation leaders visit our AFI Leadership page.
We are always looking for willing volunteers across the AFI organization. Below are just some of who we are looking for to assist. If you are interested please reach out to your nearest State or Installation leadership.
Camp Chef/Camp Boss: At all our events we need a qualified camp chef and boss. This person prepares the food, sets the schedule for meals, manages the setup and tear down, and ensures all participants have a good experience. This is an absolutely essential role for a good event.
Mentor (hunting or Fishing): We like to pair our attendees with an experienced mentor usually one mentor for two mentees. These folks are responsible for teaching our participants the tactical skills of the specific type of hunting or fishing we are engaged in. (ie. what does elk sign look like, why tie on this fly vs another, what safety precautions to take in this environment) These roles are essential for a good experience. After signing up you will be interviewed to better understand your skillset and how we can utilize those skills.
Mentee: Someone who is interested in attending a future event. Can be experienced or inexperienced in hunting or fishing but just want to learn more about BHA or AFI and the mission. Please note almost all our event fill up quickly so you may be on a waiting list. Please feel free to sign up for as many events as you wish and we will do our best to fit you in.
Media talent: Can you take photos, film, or write and are not afraid to work for little to no money but with the guarantee your work will be used all over BHA and our partners website? if so this is the job for you. So much of our mission and funding goals are tied to being able to show investors what we do every day and we can't do that without talented media teammates.
Jack of all Trades: Someone who's willing to cook, clean, mentor hunters and anything in between. This is for someone who wants to help but isn't quite sure how. Sign up and reach out to your local leader and we can put you to work somewhere.
