Find Your New Mission Through Conservation

Our Mission

To instill a knowledge of conservation theory, love of wild public spaces, and desire to conserve North America’s wild public lands and waters for the future.

Our Vision

A community actively engaged in conservation efforts in the field, on the water, and in the places conservation policies are shaped.

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers' Armed Forces Initiative (AFI) introduces the military community to public lands and waters during and after their time serving our nation.

AFI offers a new mission of conservation to armed force members and their families  with the goal of enhancing their mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being.

Through the lens of conservation, AFI teaches participants how to hunt, fish, camp, hike, and recreate outdoors.

AFI hosts events across the United States and Canada, teaching participants valuable hunting and fishing skills including knowledge of why those activities are critical components of wildlife management.

Our events are designed to embody the spirit of service by encouraging discussions on conservation efforts and cultivating connections among service members dedicated to the stewardship of public spaces.

We teach our participants the tools for a lifetime of experiences in the backcountry so they can continue to serve their country and communities through the conservation conversation.
