On Friday, April 15th at Midnight the public comment period for Draft Amendment 7 to the Fishery Management plan for Atlantic Striped Bass closed. A day before that deadline the Leadership Boards of the New England, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Capital and Pennsylvania Chapters of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers submitted comments to ASMFC’s staff urging them to recover and protect Striped Bass.
Now that the final public input opportunity on Amendment 7 has concluded, you might be wondering what happens next. Here’s a quick rundown of what we’re expecting.
ASMFC’s 2022 Spring Meeting is scheduled for May 2-5, and will be held in a hybrid format that allows for both in-person and remote participation by Commissioners and interested stakeholders. Within this meeting, the Atlantic Striped Bass Board is scheduled to meet from 11:30 AM – 5:15PM on Wednesday, May 4 to consider Final Action on Amendment 7.
Details on how you can join the Striped Bass Board’s meeting are posted near the top of the 2022 Spring Meeting page. While not available currently, we’re expecting to see the ASFMC staff’s breakdown of public input on Draft Amendment 7 soon, and that will be posted near the Striped Bass Board’s portion of the agenda.
