Biologists in the program focus on studying and understanding the diverse populations of grouse, ptarmigan, and hares throughout the state.The statewide Small Game Program (SGP) has four primary responsibilities including management (S&I), research, outreach, and providing recommendations to the Board of Game regarding small game hunting regulations. In addition to their research, the program offers educational opportunities, including courses and seminars, to help hunters and outdoor enthusiasts gain a deeper understanding of small game hunting opportunities in Alaska. ADF&G offers educational opportunities, including courses and seminars, through either Alaskans Afield or Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) and these events often feature collaboration with Small Game Program staff. We also speak up for wildlife, guided by the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Finally, we believe in and advocate for fair chase in pursuit of fish and game. If those ideals resonate with you, please come join us to learn more and maybe become part of BHA. This event is free and open to all.
