AFI Event Review AR Snow Goose Feb 2023
Thank you so much for inviting me on the recent learn to snow goose hunt event. I've never been much of a hunter, but I've always been curious, and to be honest I was not thrilled with being selected for the snow goose hunt out of the four or five events, I have a plied for. I've seen the piles of 100 Snowgoose dead on social media and thought it didn't seem like a fair chase or in line with the conservation ethic I hold myself to.
However, after meeting the other participants, and especially after that wonderful presentation from the Director of Arkansas, Game and Fish on what ecological changes have happened over the past 70 years, and why snow geese are flooding into the United States from their arctic nesting grounds in record numbers, not only do I feel better when I see the social media posts of hundreds of Snowgeese taken in the day I also have my own story I can tell to others who don't understand the waterfowl conservation argument of how I helped to harvest over 100 Snowgeese in a day and what delicious table fare they made for me and my family.
I am going to go back to Texas and tell everyone I can about this amazing program and backcountry hunters anglers. You guys are making a huge difference, and I have only positive things to say.
